Critics Choice Association Announces Their 5th Annual Super Awards Nominations

The summer season brings the big and loud best of cinema. It’s also the time to celebrate it. The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced today the nominees for the 5th annual Critics Choice Super Awards, honoring the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, and Action. Winners will be revealed on CriticsChoice.com on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 9:00am Pacific time. Film Obsessive Editor in Chief Don Shanahan is a voting member of the Critics Choice Association and, for the third consecutive year, is part of the Super Awards nominating committee.

Deadpool and Wolverine and Thunderbolts* lead this year’s film nominees, having earned six nominations each including Best Superhero Movie. Both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds from Deadpool and Wolverine were recognized in the category of Best Actor in a Superhero Movie, while Emma Corrin and Jennifer Garner received nods for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie. Emma Corrin also is up for a second award, Best Villain in a Movie.

Thunderbolts* received nominations in the same categories, including nods for both David Harbour and Lewis Pullman for Best Actor in a Superhero Movie. Lewis Pullman is also up for Best Villain in a Movie, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Florence Pugh were both nominated for Best Actress in a Superhero Movie.

In the horror categories, Ryan Googler’s current smash, Sinners, leads with four, followed by Nosferatu with three nominations. On the action side, it’s tied between Civil War and The Fall Guy for the most nominations with three. In the final section of science fiction, Dune: Part Two commands the field with five nominations.

The full list of film nominees can be found below. Voting for the final winners will begin on July 14th and end on July 20th.
