Hollywood Creative Alliance Announce Their 2025 Midseason Astra Awards Nominees

On the heels of our site’s own “Best of 2025 So Far…” staff picks, the Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) has announced their nominees for the 2025 Astra Midseason Movie Awards. These mid-year awards honor the best in cinema from the first half of each calendar year. All films considered and nominated were released between January 1 and June 30, 2025. Film Obsessive Editor in Chief Don Shanahan is a voting member of the HCA.

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners leads the field after earning seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Michael B.Jordan, Best Supporting Actress for Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku, Best Supporting Actor for Miles Caton, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. Similar to last year, A24 Films received the most nominations overall across all categories, with 11 nominations across their titles, including Alex Garland’s Warfare, Celine Song’s Materialists, and Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby. Other films with multiple nominations include Neon’s The Life of Chuck, Sony Pictures’ 28 Years Later, Apple’s F1, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, and Focus Features’ Black Bag

Final voting with HCA members for the 2025 Astra Midseason Movie Awards is currently underway. The Astra Midseason Awards winners will be announced on the official Astra Awards X page and Instagram Page on Thursday, July 3, 2024, starting at 10am PT/1pm ET.
