Sinners Sweeps the 2025 Midseason Movie Astra Awards

The Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) has officially announced the winners of the 2025 Astra Midseason Movie Awards, celebrating the finest achievements in cinema from the first half of the year. Nominees were announced earlier in the week and final voting was completed during the same time span. Film Obsessive Editor in Chief Don Shanahan is a voting member of the Hollywood Creative Alliance and their Astra Awards. All films considered were released between January 1 and June 30, 2025.

The spring Warner Bros. smash hit Sinners dominated this year’s 2025 Midseason Movie Astra Awards, sweeping all six categories in which the film was nominated. Sinners earned top honors including Best Picture, Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Best Supporting Actress for Hailee Steinfeld, Best Supporting Actor for Miles Caton, Best Director for Ryan Coogler, and Best Screenplay.

Florence Pugh earned Best Actress for her performance in Marvel Studios Thunderbolts*, while Tracie Laymon’s heartfelt indie Bob Trevino Likes It was named Best Indie Film. Danny and Michael Philippou’s critically acclaimed horror feature Bring Her Back won Best Horror Film, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning starring the stunt master himself, Tom Cruise, took home Best Stunts. Closing out the awards was Jon M. Chu’s upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, of last year’s Astra Best Picture Winner Wicked, which was named Most Anticipated Film for the Second Half of 2025.
