For much of this past spring and summer, the hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network put together a subset of episodes entitled “Romance Before Bromance” looking at the romantic resumes of comic book movie actors, particularly the studs of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along the way, the name of Glen Powell came up and the heralded return of the Hollywood romantic comedy with his hit Anyone But You from last year. After referencing it for long enough, it was high time the gents gave the movie its own episode the podcast.
For their 175th episode, two buff film critics, two gossipy dads, and two romantic teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, found themselves smitten recently with last year’s runaway hit Anyone But You. Many have called this Sydney Sweeney/Glen Powell vehicle the return of the big screen rom-com. Our hosts have been doing their homework on that genre this year and are happy to weigh in.
