Mortal Kombat II Mashes the Buttons of the Cinephile Hissy Fit

KARL URBAN as Johnny Cage in New Line Cinema’s “Mortal Kombat II,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Last week on the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast episode that covered 2026’s Masters of the Universe, the hosts welcomed back a guest who matched their drug addiction for certain eras of nostalgia. Well, as they say, “birds of a feather flock together.” They’ve brought back another former guest this week to enter into the same blissful fog of entertainment memories. This week, their addictive habit of choice is the button-mashing violence of the Mortal Kombat game series, recently celebrated with the summer sequel, Mortal Kombat II.

For their 244th episode, two button-mashing film critics, two fatality-delivering dads, and two very mortal school teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, welcome back former guest Mark Krawczyk of Special Mark Productions and The Spoiler Room Podcast for a two-episode stint. Our first conversation covers Mortal Kombat II, the reboot sequel that’s tearing up bodies and streaming couches with its arrival on HBO Max. We enjoy where the movie came from and where it looks like it has room to keep going. Come learn more and stay for the mutual love and respect that fun movies encapsulate. Enjoy our podcast!
