Here on Film Obsessive, the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network, is not very far removed from the 25YL roots that started this site. Our two hosts (and many of their guests) are old enough to remember 1997 quite fondly. Looking back a quarter-century therefore makes for an entertaining trip down memory lane. For this episode and in true 25YL fashion, the CHF turns back the clock to the tentpole movie that had the honor—a defeat—of opening against Titanic.
For their 94th episode, two globe-trotting critics, two gadget-y dads, and two dapper school teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan are joined by returning guest Ben Cahlamer. The Phoenix-based film critic of The Cinema Files joins the gentlemen to talk about the 25th anniversary of James Bond entry Tomorrow Never Dies. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Pryce, Teri Hatcher, and a then-fresh-faced (and, we can only hope, future Oscar winner) Michelle Yeoh, the 1997 actioner made our talkers long for the good old practical effects days of Ian Fleming’s government agent. Come for the shared challenge and tirade and stay for the mutual love and respect for the fun movies encapsulate.
ABOUT OUR GUEST
Ben Cahlamer is the editor-in-chief of The Movie Revue. He also contributes stellar work to The Cinema Files and is the host of the Essentially Cinema podcast.
