The Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast Feasts on Hannibal

The hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast, sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network, have spent a pair of episodes recently filling in blind spot holes within the filmography of esteemed director Ridley Scott for co-host Will Johnson. Gladiator is high on his list of all-time favorite films, meaning that the collective disappointment for Gladiator II last year stung. Trying to right the ship, wash the taste out of his mouth, and renew his faith in the 87-year-old filmmaker, Will circled back to The Martian and G.I. Jane for pleasing results. Those two hits cleared the way for his biggest Ridley Scott challenge yet: the much-maligned Hannibal from 2001.

For their 212th episode, two mangled film critics, two serial killer dads, and two sautéed teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, venture into the smoky vapors of Ridley Scott trying to relight the victory cigar of the Oscar-winning The Silence of the Lambs. Until this summer, Will had never seen Scott’s gaudy Anthony Hopkins sequel Hannibal. Meanwhile, the slightly older Don was first in line for the intestines-spilling feats in 2001 and has the shocked and appalled reactions seared into memory. Come learn more and stay for the mutual love and respect that fun movies encapsulate. Enjoy our podcast!
