The Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast Joins Ian Simmons of Kicking the Seat for Spider-Man 3

Chicago-based “Kicking the Seat” podcast and YouTube creator Ian Simmons is currently working on a year-long moratorium from new comic book movies and TV shows. It’s a bold and ambitious undertaking that the hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast, sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network, are quick to admire. Ian’s one caveat is the descriptor of “new.” Revisiting older titles is on the table. That’s where he dug into the dumpster to find everyone’s favorite emo Peter Parker and two willing podcast collaborator guests.

For their 76th episode, our two web-slinging film critics, police chief dads, and eye-rolling school teachers Will Johnson and Don Shanahan welcome a collaboration episode with Ian Simmons of the “Kicking the Seat” podcast. Bost of our hosts have been frequent guests on Ian’s YouTube livestreams. Recently, he welcomed Will and Don for a retrospective talk on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Ian asked us to watch the movie with new eyes. Listen to hear if any of the three needed to change the prescription of their rose-colored glasses or have their eyeballs washed out with inky black symbiote goo.

ABOUT OUR HOST

IAN SIMMONS

Ian Simmons launched Kicking the Seat in 2009, one week after seeing Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia. His wife proposed blogging as a healthier outlet for his anger than red-faced, twenty-minute tirades (Ian is no longer allowed to drive home from the movies).

The Kicking the Seat Podcast followed three years later and, despite its “undiscovered gem” status, Ian thoroughly enjoys hosting film critic discussions, creating themed shows, and interviewing such luminaries as Gaspar NoéRachel BrosnahanAmy Seimetz, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Ian is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Association. He also has a family, a day job, and conflicted feelings about referring to himself in the third person.
