This past summer, the hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast took a trip in the wayback movie machine to rewatch the Naked Gun series, starring Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy, and the much-maligned since O.J. Simpson. Part of the journey was getting ready for the 2025 deep sequel and reboot. More curiously, though, they wanted to know if the dated jokes from the by-gone 1990s still held up next to the franchise’s unique and calculated style of joke delivery. For the most part, these were still a treat to watch, adding to the eagerness for the new The Naked Gun entry which hit theaters in August.

For their 214th episode, two bumbling film critics, two clueless dads, and two coffee-passing teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, had very few movies circled on their calendar for the summer of 2025. Beyond the comic blockbusters, and even in front of them in some cases, The Naked Gun was one of them. They were more than happy to indulge in the comedic work of Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson to convince us this style of farce wasn’t lost or dead. Come learn more and stay for the mutual love and respect that fun movies encapsulate. Enjoy our podcast!
