For those who know me: would I have picked any other trailer for this week’s feature? Of course not! Disney owns the world, Marvel dominates the box office and Scarlett Johansson plays all the roles so we must bow down to our entertainment overlords! And I couldn’t be more excited to do just that as Marvel Studio’s 24th official release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe features (finally) Black Widow as the main star.
As usual, MCU mastermind Kevin Feige has found the perfect cast including newest It-Girl Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Outlaw/King), fan-favorite David Harbour (Stranger Things), and yet another collection of Oscar winners (Rachel Weisz and William Hurt, who reprises his role as Thunderbolt Ross). With the addition of Weisz to the universe, the MCU now has a cast of actors with 97 total Oscar nominations and 20 wins. To add to the impressive cast, Feige has brought on the MCU’s first solo female director, Cate Shortland, an Australian filmmaker with three indies under her belt.
There are not a lot of details about the story yet or even when the film takes place since, well, things kind of happened to Black Widow in Endgame. The brief description of the film, per the official website:
“Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow in Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz as Melina. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow” hits U.S. theaters on May 1, 2020. “
Black Widow will be released in theaters on May 1st, 2020. Follow news and developments on the film’s official website, Facebook page, and Instagram. #BlackWidow
