When imaging the upcoming cast for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, I had a lot of thoughts. One being, I hope that he casts Kyle MacLachlan as Duke Leto Atreides. That would just be phenomenal and coming full circle. Is it future or is it past? Though, one thought had been, “Who would they cast as the main meanie villain, Baron Harkonnen?” Well I do not need to speculate anymore. Stellan Skarsgard was announced this week as taking on the role in Legendary films adaptation.

With filming set to take place in Budapest and Jordan this spring, it just brings more great acting talent into the fold. Already announced has been Timothee Chalamet as Paul, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Dave Bautista as ‘Beast” Rabban. Villeneuve will of course be directing. The script was written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
Skarsgard has a long list of credits, most recently in the Mamma Mia movies, but also Pirates of the Caribbean series as Bootstrap Bill, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also happens to be the father of Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood and Big Little Lies, and Bill Skarsgard of Castle Rock and of course, It fame.
