The Cinephile Hissy Fit Goes Crazy for Swayze With Road House

The hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast, sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network, constantly run into that Lisa Simpson meme that goes around social media talking about remakes. The wise-cracking wisdom of image urges Hollywood movie moguls to remake movies that failed as a way of second chances and corrected mistakes instead of remaking classics that don’t need improvement. Swingers and The Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman has treaded on such ground this month with the new Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s the wrong Patrick Swayze movie to reference, but nobody puts Dalton in a corner, and the podcast is here to defend a classic.

For their 150th episode, two non-mulleted film critics, two nice dads, and two not nice teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan, prepare for the 2024 remake of Road House with an episode going back to talk about the 1989 original. Don’s been “Crazy for Swayze” and this movie since he was a kid, while this was Will’s first time seeing this sweaty and seedy cult classic. How does the macho time capsule hold up for a newbie and a long-time fan? Come for the shared challenge and stay for the mutual love and respect for the fun movies encapsulate. Enjoy our podcast!
