The hosts of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast, sponsored and supported by the Ruminations Radio Network, hope the notion of heroes is not entirely a “boy thing.” Whether it’s lifting known characters from literature, real people from history, or composing new and original figures, movies have for been creating and gilding heroes for over a century. The AFI’s “100 Years… 100 Heroes and Villains” list is an ideal reference. Like so many along with the Cinephile Hissy Fit, people discover movie heroes as children. They would become influences of moral emulation for the rest of their lives. They are special and worth sharing to other audiences.

For their 117th episode, two dashing film critics, two Herculean dads, and two list-building teachers, Will Johnson and Don Shanahan pause from film reviews for a special list episode. The recent culmination of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and the rewatches of the Christopher Reeve Superman series got our guys thinking about their all-time favorite movie heroes. Our hosts go back and forth to dole out their Top 5 and honorable mention ranks on the topic. If you know Will and Don, you see the differences and blends of sensibilities on heroes.
